Daniel Locke Jr., an 82-year-old Fairfax Station resident, died on Saturday, October 31, after his car struck a traffic signal pole on Fairfax County Parkway in Burke.

Fairfax County Police Department records indicate Locke was driving a 2014 Infiniti Q-70 southbound when he changed lanes multiple times and veered onto the right shoulder. The vehicle hit the signal pole at the Burke Lake Road intersection around 5:43 p.m.

The impact pushed the Infiniti into a 2007 Lexus RX 350 that was stopped at a red light. The Lexus then collided with a 2024 Mazda MX-5 behind it. Fire and rescue units transported Locke to Inova Fairfax Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Drivers in the Lexus and Mazda reported no injuries.

Detectives stated that speed was a preliminary factor in the collision, while alcohol did not appear to play a role. The Crash Reconstruction Unit is currently investigating the accident.

This incident marks the second fatal crash at this specific intersection in October. On October 4, a 93-year-old Springfield man died the day after his sedan struck a 2017 Toyota 4Runner at the same corner.

State data lists at least 43 crash-related fatalities on Fairfax County roads in 2026. Local counts place the October total at five deaths, raising the year's overall toll to 46.
