Lamine Yamal is the favorite to win the 2026 Ballon d'Or according to artificial intelligence models, but bookmakers give Harry Kane a 70 percent probability of taking the prize. The award will be presented at the London Palladium in less than 24 hours.

Avisia, a French data analysis firm, released a prediction model that ranks the Barcelona winger first with a 23 percent chance of success. Harry Kane follows with a 21 percent probability, while Kylian Mbappe and Rodri are tied for third at 19 percent. Lionel Messi rounds out the top five with an 18 percent chance of winning a record ninth award.

The divergence between data models and betting markets creates a split in the pre-ceremony narrative. While AI algorithms favor the 19-year-old Spain international, traditional bookmakers see Kane as the outright favorite. Avisia notes that its models correctly identified the top five contenders for the previous year's award, which Ousmane Dembele won.

Player endorsements add another layer to the debate. Jude Bellingham supports Kane, describing him as a hard-working and honest person. Anthony Gordon backs Yamal, calling the young player's development at such a young age ridiculous. Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone and former Italy international Marco Materazzi both favor Messi, citing his performance at age 38 after his international retirement.

Mbappe holds the strongest statistical case, leading La Liga with 25 goals and the Champions League with 15. He also set the World Cup record with 12 goals. Kane scored 73 goals last season, the highest total since Messi netted 82 in 2011-12. However, neither player won a major trophy with their club or country, a factor that may weaken their bids.

Yamal stands out for winning the World Cup with Spain and La Liga with Barcelona. Recent history favors title winners, as only four of the last 19 Ballon d'Or recipients failed to lift a major trophy in the year they were honored. Yamal is positioned to become the youngest winner in the award's history if he beats the record held by Brazilian Ronaldo, who was 21 in 1997.
