Cobb County Animal Services in Marietta has updated its visitor protocol to prioritize scheduled appointments for prospective adopters. The shelter, located at 1060 Al Bishop Drive, states that booking a time slot allows staff to better distribute their attention among current pet owners, animals in the facility, and volunteers. While the change aims to smooth the adoption process, it introduces a hierarchy in how visitors are seen during peak times.
The facility prefers that individuals schedule a visit before arriving on-site. However, walk-ins remain welcome. Shelter officials note that if an unannounced visitor arrives at the same time as someone with a reserved slot, the person with the appointment will be prioritized. This approach is designed to balance the needs of current and future pet parents without excluding those who cannot book ahead.
Certain situations still bypass the appointment requirement. Owner surrenders must continue to book a time in advance. In contrast, citizens finding stray animals, looking for lost pets, or reclaiming animals from the shelter are encouraged to visit directly without prior scheduling. The online booking system is available around the clock for those wishing to reserve a spot.
The policy update coincides with the release of the daily Cat of the Day feature. Aristo, a nine-month-old male domestic short hair, is currently housed in pent 4. The tabby cat weighs seven pounds and is listed under Animal ID 23739. He arrived at the facility in Marietta and is marked as active in the shelter system. His short coat and young age make him a candidate for families seeking a long-term companion.
Shelter staff advise that adopting a pet is a commitment to a lifelong partnership. Prospective adopters are urged to consider their readiness before bringing a new family member into their household. Those with questions about the process can reach the facility by calling (770) 499-4136. The online platform allows visitors to view available pets and schedule a visit at any hour.
The shift in policy reflects a logistical adjustment rather than a change in the animals available for adoption. Aristo and other residents remain in their respective cages, awaiting placement. The shelter continues to operate under the same physical address and contact information, ensuring that the pathway to adoption remains open to both planned and spontaneous visitors.
