Kentucky Educational Television appointed Renee Shaw as its new executive director and CEO on Wednesday. Shaw succeeds Shae Hopkins, who died one week prior to the announcement.

Shaw has worked at the network for nearly 30 years. Her roles included journalist, producer, and host. She is known for moderating public affairs shows such as Kentucky Tonight and Kentucky Edition. In July, she announced her plan to step down from hosting duties.

"KET has been such an important part of my life, and it is an incredible honor to have the opportunity to lead an organization that means so much to Kentucky," Shaw said in a statement.

Hopkins served as executive director and CEO for more than 17 years. She spent four decades with the organization. Before Shaw's retirement announcement, Hopkins praised her colleague's work. "Renee is one of the most trusted and respected voices in Kentucky journalism, known for her thoughtful reporting, in-depth interviews, and commitment to civil, informed public discourse," Hopkins said.

Shaw is originally from Tennessee. She started her career at KET as a reporter and associate producer. She later moved into prominent positions within the network's public affairs programming.

As the new CEO, Shaw will oversee statewide public media services. These duties include classroom educational resources and original programming about Kentucky's history and culture. A KET spokesperson said in a statement that Shaw's first day of work has not yet been determined.
