The NFL’s most competitive division has effectively vanished from contention as the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles meet Monday night in Philadelphia. Both franchises carry 2-4 records, placing them directly behind the New York Giants, who hold the division lead at 3-2-1. The proximity of these standings means a victory for either side keeps the race tight despite the current collective slump.

The division has experienced a historic lack of momentum. Over the past two weeks, all four teams played twice and none secured a win. This marks the first occurrence of such a result since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger. The Eagles are on a four-game losing streak, their first of that duration since 2020. During that span, Philadelphia’s offense managed just 58 points, indicating issues that extend beyond the quarterback position.

Quarterback Jalen Hurts is on injured reserve with blood clots and is expected to miss the remainder of the season. Tanner McKee, who served as a backup for his first two NFL seasons, now directs the offense. His previous starts occurred after the Eagles had already clinched a playoff spot. Last week’s loss to Carolina represented his first meaningful start, following just two days of first-team practice. McKee stated he feels well-prepared and plans to increase his interactions with the coaching staff. He works under first-year offensive coordinator Sean Mannion.

The Eagles’ running game faces further disruption. Saquon Barkley has missed more than two games with a hamstring injury, though he may return. Backups Will Shipley and Tank Bigsby are also injured. Carson Steele, signed from the practice squad last week, suffered a shoulder injury against Carolina. Dameon Pierce was the only healthy running back available in that game, rushing for 35 yards. Dallas allows 4.7 yards per carry this season.

The Cowboys face their own offensive and defensive hurdles. Their defense ranks 30th in the league under first-year coordinator Christian Parker. Offensively, Dallas scored only 29 points in its last two losses, including a 23-13 defeat to Green Bay. The team has scored fewer than 20 points in consecutive starts by Dak Prescott for the first time since 2019. Owner Jerry Jones indicated at the NFL’s annual fall meeting on Wednesday that he does not anticipate further coaching changes this season. He described the recent hiring of defensive assistant Mike Pettine as a strategic move.

Individual statistical milestones are at stake for several players. Javonte Williams is the second Cowboys player to record seven rushing touchdowns through six games, trailing only Emmitt Smith from 1994 and 1995. CeeDee Lamb holds 48 receptions, a franchise record for the first six games, and is closing in on 8,000 career receiving yards. Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert needs one catch to enter third place on the franchise’s career receptions list.

Dallas enters the game as a four-point favorite. The Cowboys are 3-3 against the spread, while the Eagles are 1-5. Dallas leads the all-time series 72-58 and won the previous meeting 24-21 on November 23, 2025. Kickoff is set for 7:15 p.m. CST on ESPN. The Eagles will play at Washington on November 1 and then host the Giants, a sequence that will determine the trajectory of their season.
