Hintz Breakaway Ends Stars Overtime Win Over Jets

Roope Hintz scored a breakaway goal at 3:47 of overtime to give the Dallas Stars a 3-2 win over the Winnipeg Jets at American Airlines Center on Thursday.

The winning play began when Jason Robertson blocked a Winnipeg scoring chance. Miro Heiskanen immediately sent Hintz in alone on a breakaway. Hintz finished the rush to end the game.

The sequence was a shared defensive effort. Heika reported that a Robertson turnover initially created the Winnipeg chance, but his block ended that threat. Heiskanen then converted the recovery into an attack with his outlet pass.

Heiskanen played 29 minutes and 20 seconds, the most on the team. Thomas Harley logged 28:27. The heavy minutes were necessary because Esa Lindell was scratched for the game. The next highest total for a Dallas defenseman was Lian Bichsel at 17:47.

The Stars trailed for most of the game. Adam Johnson scored early in the second period. Gabriel Vilardi and Kyle Connor then scored to put Winnipeg ahead. The Stars stayed behind until Hintz tied the game with a six-on-five power play goal with two minutes remaining in regulation.

Dallas dominated the shot count, outshooting Winnipeg 38-19. Connor Skinner made 35 saves to keep the Jets in the game. Heiskanen finished the night with five shots, one block, and the winning assist. He did not score a goal.

The Stars have not announced a return date for Lindell or a revised defensive rotation. The game did not establish a permanent pairing for the long minutes played by Heiskanen and Harley.
