A 10-year-old girl was rescued from a home in Oregon City, Oregon, on Wednesday afternoon after being taken from an apartment in Canby early that morning. The U.S. Marshals Service stated that tactical teams located the child tied up in a closet and transported her to a hospital.

Investigators reported that a man entered the apartment at 1:39 a.m. He injured a 12-year-old child and took the 10-year-old. The older child was rushed to the hospital and was still receiving treatment as of Wednesday afternoon.

Vince Edgar Chavez was arrested after attempting to flee from the rear of the Oregon City residence. Police indicated that the parents are cooperating with the investigation.

Canby Police Department officials explained that an Amber Alert was not issued because the required information had not yet been gathered. Carus Elementary, where the 10-year-old is a student, increased its police presence during Wednesday afternoon's dismissal. The school district described the additional security as a precautionary measure.

The district expressed its support for the students and staff involved. “Our hearts are with this child and her family,” the school district said. “Please know that we are here to support our students, staff and families in whatever ways we can.”
