Goldsboro police charged an 83-year-old driver with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle after a wrong-way collision killed a 41-year-old motorcycle rider. The crash occurred on US-70 near North William Street, where David Langston was riding in the westbound lanes when he was struck by a vehicle traveling the opposite direction.
Edward Stewart of Goldsboro faces three counts related to the accident: misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, reckless driving, and driving the wrong way on a dual-lane highway. Court records indicate he is expected to appear in December for his proceedings.
Peggy Craft, Langston’s mother, described her son as a dedicated mechanic who prioritized his family. She said Langston worked hard to provide for his 10-year-old son, Dylan, and spent as much time with the boy as his schedule allowed. Craft emphasized that Langston was known locally for his generosity and positive attitude.
“He would give the shirt off his back,” Craft said. “The first thing is he loved his son with all his heart, and he spent all the time he could with his son.” She noted that the family is currently focused on preserving Dylan’s memory of his father and ensuring he understands the impact of his life.
Langston’s death leaves his son as the primary survivor in the immediate family. A GoFundMe campaign has been established to support Dylan following the crash. Police confirmed Stewart was the driver responsible for the wrong-way travel that led to the fatal impact.
