Van Eure and her staff at The Angus Barn in Raleigh are nearly complete with their annual Christmas transformation as of this week. The restaurant team began work on October 1 and is in the final stages of installation.
Eure stated that the team has roughly one day of work remaining to finish the displays. They are currently completing details in the dining rooms, lounges, and outdoor spaces.
The decorations include moving reindeer, nutcrackers, wreaths, and themed orbs. Each room features a distinct holiday scene. The staff installed these elements across the entire property.
A new room is dedicated to Eure’s grandfather, Thad Eure. Thad Eure served as the North Carolina Secretary of State for 52 years. He holds the record as the longest-serving elected official in United States history.
Eure described the space as a tribute to her grandfather’s life. A large painting of Thad Eure hangs in the room. The decor reflects his personal style, specifically his frequent use of a straw hat and red bow tie.
The room contains memorabilia from his career. These items include his law books and a framed letter. Eure discovered the letter while sorting through her grandfather’s belongings. The document is signed by Winston Churchill.
Eure said she was shocked to find the signature. She recalled thinking, “oh my gosh, it’s signed by Winston Churchill.” She noted that her grandfather’s support was essential to the restaurant’s existence.
Eure explained that her grandfather signed a note that allowed her father to secure a bank loan. She stated, “Because without him, we wouldn’t have The Angus Barn.” The restaurant relies on this history to inform its holiday displays.
The installation process involves heavy physical labor. Eure described the work as comparable to construction rather than simple decorating. Her team uses hammers, tools, and flower cutters while working on scaffolding and ladders.
Eure estimated that the total number of lights and decorations used is in the billions. This count includes both the interior displays and the exterior installations. The team is currently busy in the Nutcracker Room.
The outdoor area features a 30-foot Christmas tree with a tunnel inside. There is also an ornament ball wall for guest photography. The Golden Corral provided a miniature replica of The Angus Barn as a gift for the display.
Eure incorporates decorations belonging to her mother in several areas. One wine cellar is named after her mother. The Wild Turkey Lounge also features her mother’s items. These personal touches are integrated into the holiday theme.
