Arsenal moved to the top of the Premier League on Saturday by defeating Everton 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium in heavy rain. The victory closed a three-point gap with Manchester City, which suffered its first league defeat of the season on the same day. Both clubs now hold 21 points after eight matchdays.

Ezri Konsa opened the scoring in the seventh minute. Martin Odegaard delivered a corner that Jordan Pickford initially saved, but the ball remained loose in the box. Konsa finished from a yard out, marking his first goal for the club and Arsenal's first set-piece strike in 13 games.

Gabriel secured the lead in the 68th minute with a header from the far post. Ben White provided the assist, a moment that coincided with two career milestones. White played his 200th match for Arsenal, while Gabriel made his 200th Premier League appearance. Everton finished ninth in the table after the loss.

At Villa Park, Aston Villa defeated Manchester City 2-1. Nicolas Jackson scored twice for the home side, ending City's unbeaten start to the campaign. This marked Villa's third consecutive league win against the champions and their first home victory this season. The result lifted Unai Emery's team to sixth place with 11 points.

Jackson opened the scoring in the sixth minute after John McGinn broke away from a Marc Guehi error. Erling Haaland equalized for City shortly after halftime, heading in a free kick from Iliman Ndiaye. Jackson restored the lead in the 60th minute, finishing a cutback from Ibrahim Mbaye to beat Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Manchester City remains under financial scrutiny as it appeals a ruling that found 114 breaches of league rules. The club denies wrongdoing. "It's just the beginning; we're trying to work game by game," Jackson told TNT Sports.

In other Saturday results, Tottenham Hotspur beat Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge. It was Spurs' second league win at that venue in 36 years. Cole Palmer was sent off in the 80th minute after a second yellow card, and Mathys Tel scored the final goal in the 87th minute. Fulham defeated Coventry City 1-0, with Oscar Bobb scoring in the 80th minute.
