Ernie Johnson has announced he will no longer host "Inside the NBA" when the current season concludes. The Sports Broadcasting Hall of Famer made the announcement on social media on Wednesday, October 28, 2026.
The 70-year-old broadcaster stated that he is stepping back to reduce his workload rather than retiring entirely. He described the move as a "turning of the page" rather than an ending.
"It's just a turning of the page," Johnson wrote. "And I'll forever cherish every chapter we have written with 'Inside the NBA.'"
Johnson confirmed he plans to remain active in sports broadcasting. He will continue covering the NCAA men's basketball tournament for CBS and Turner Sports.
The six-time Sports Emmy winner noted that while he has managed heart issues in recent years, his health is not the primary reason for leaving the show. He said he simply wants to slow down.
Johnson joined Turner Sports in 1989 and has hosted the program since 1990. He thanked his production teams at TNT Sports and ESPN, as well as the audience, for their support over the decades.
