Flock Safety says its cameras do not track people. The company's own training videos show police using the system to follow suspects "from location to location to location," and some camera models are built to follow pedestrians as they walk. "And they quite literally use AI to zoom in and follow you around whether you're a person of interest or not," said Benn Jordan, a security researcher who located dozens of Flock cameras streaming openly online.

Cameras that capture vehicle information are multiplying across the country, raising questions about what happens when the technology is misused. The number of these devices has grown alongside a broader effort to track police camera infrastructure; one man is on a mission to map every police camera in the United States.

The equipment is one part of a health and support picture that also includes service animals for military members. Veteran James Poggi served in the Marine Corps in aviation. His service left lasting physical strain, including five back surgeries and a below-the-knee amputation.

To address the emotional toll, Poggi's wife, who is also his caregiver, suggested he get a service dog. Recent gifts have provided military members with service animals for support.

Diabetes is also under scrutiny. It is the seventh leading cause of death in the United States and the top cause of kidney disease, with an estimated 40 million people living with the condition nationwide. Doctors say decades of prevention education and treatment advances have not stopped the disease from hitting the South hard, including North Carolina.

In entertainment, the barbershop quartet Southern Tradition has performed since 1999. The group brings together four men with different careers. "The main attribute to be a barbershop quartet singer is to not be embarrassed, just keep going," said Karl Hansen.
