Four people were hospitalized after gunfire broke out at a barn party in Iredell County, North Carolina. The incident occurred around 2 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 1, at a venue along Coddle Creek Highway in Mooresville. Deputies reported that at least 30 shots were fired during the event.
Three of the four victims have since been released from the hospital. The fourth patient remains in stable condition. Law enforcement has not publicly identified any of the injured individuals, nor have they made arrests in the case.
Capt. Julie Wyatt of the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office stated that between 200 and 300 people attended the gathering. Driver’s licenses collected at the scene indicated that many attendees traveled from outside the county. Wyatt said multiple online promoters advertised the event, leading to a turnout that surprised the property owners.
“We spoke with the owners, and we are confident they had no clue how big this was going to be,” Wyatt said. “I think it hit social media and just spread like wildfire.” Investigators have taken approximately 50 witness statements so far.
Wyatt noted that most witnesses heard the shooting but did not see what happened. “So we don't have an idea of what led up to it,” she explained. Deputies stated there is no ongoing danger to the public. A day after the event, the property was littered with empty alcohol bottles, food containers, discarded clothing, and dozens of chairs.
A woman renting a home on the property described the shooting as very unusual. She said she was asleep and only learned of the incident when a Mooresville Police officer told her to lock her windows and doors. “It was kind of crazy,” she said, noting the property usually hosts weddings and birthdays.
Patty, a long-time resident down the road, said cars were lined up along the highway and in nearby fields. “It’s actually terrifying to know that many people were shooting,” Patty said. She expressed concern for local children and grandchildren, describing the area as a quiet place that had never seen such an event.
