Voters in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, have already cast more ballots from the Hispanic community during the current early voting period than participated in the entire 2022 midterm election. State voting data through October 31 shows that 16,137 Hispanic residents cast ballots in the county so far. This total exceeds the 11,141 Hispanic votes recorded in the 2022 midterms, despite Election Day still being ahead.
These votes represent approximately 5.4% of the 299,003 total ballots cast in Mecklenburg County during the early voting window. Women accounted for roughly 60% of the Hispanic ballots submitted. Young voters also drove a large portion of the turnout, with 9,000 Hispanic voters aged 18 to 40 casting ballots. This age group comprises about 56% of the total Hispanic vote, broken down into 4,323 voters ages 18 to 25 and 4,722 voters ages 26 to 40.
Partisan affiliation among Hispanic voters remained skewed toward Democrats. A total of 8,407 registered Democrats cast ballots. An additional 6,404 voters were unaffiliated, while 1,249 registered Republicans participated. The data suggests a strong engagement from a demographic that has seen shifting political preferences in recent years.
Democratic leaders are watching these numbers closely as they look to secure a majority in Tuesday’s election. Many party strategists believe their chances depend on winning back Hispanic voters who leaned toward Republicans in the 2024 presidential race. The early surge in ballot counts offers a concrete indicator of where this demographic stands in the current cycle.
