A 23-year-old man from Givatayim faced police custody on Saturday night following a physical altercation at a political rally in Tel Aviv. The incident disrupted a public event organized by former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, who was urging the establishment of a commission to investigate the failures preceding the October 7 attacks.
Witnesses reported that the suspect, who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, shouted the slogan “Only Bibi” in support of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He attempted to breach the security perimeter surrounding Bennett’s podium. Guards instructed him to stop, but he continued to push forward toward the former leader and his staff.
After a guard pushed the man back to maintain the barrier, the suspect shoved the officer in return. Security personnel quickly subdued the man and held him at the park until police arrived. Officers took the suspect to the station for questioning. An initial review indicated that the man has no prior criminal record.
Bennett, who led the country from June 2021 to June 2022, chaired the B'Yachad party at the time of the rally. The event took place days before the 2026 Knesset elections. Military personnel had already cast their ballots at designated polling stations earlier in the week. Investigators are currently reviewing the specific circumstances of the confrontation.
