Apple released iOS 27.1 to the public on the evening before October 23, but only for the iPhone Duo. Owners of other iPhone models did not receive this update.

Users checking the Software Update menu on standard iPhone devices found iOS 27.0.1 listed as the current version. Apple bypassed the 27.1 release entirely for these phones. The company plans to move those devices directly to iOS 27.2.

This split release breaks with standard practice. Point releases usually deliver new features to all compatible hardware simultaneously. Apple kept the 27.1 build isolated for the Duo to manage new custom designs and features.

The separation also helped Apple maintain secrecy. The iPhone Duo launched officially last month, but specific details about its capabilities remained under wraps until recently. By skipping a beta cycle for the 27.1 build, Apple avoided exposing these details to the wider testing community.

iOS 27.2 has been in beta testing for approximately one month. It is scheduled to reach all users next week. The update includes Suggested Actions in Messages and a new design for Apple Music. It adds user profiles to Apple TV and overhauls the Up Next queue in Apple Podcasts.

FaceTime gains Dual Capture for group calls, and Siri AI will support additional languages. Standard iPhone owners will not miss any features from the 27.1 build, as that version was never intended for their hardware.
