Jackson Chourio recorded four hits on Monday night, a performance that put the Milwaukee Brewers ahead 3-0 in the World Series.
The 22-year-old outfielder went 4-for-6 in a 10-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 3. Chourio accounted for four of the 16 hits recorded by the Brewers during the game.
He is the first 22-year-old in 80 years to collect four hits in a World Series game. Chourio has now recorded eight hits in the first three games of this series.
The win places the Brewers on the verge of their first championship in franchise history. The team has been 57 years without a title.
Brewers hitting coach Daniel Vogelbach described Chourio as a kid who could be playing college baseball right now. Vogelbach noted that Chourio has played 23 career postseason games, all within the last three years.
Chourio said he maintains calmness and focuses on positive results. He stated that he expects a lot from himself but must remain composed in high-pressure situations.
Brewers president of baseball operations Matt Arnold called Chourio a superstar. Arnold served as general manager when the team signed Chourio out of Venezuela in 2021 at age 16.
Chourio's regular-season OPS from 2024 to 2026 is .799. His postseason OPS over the same period is .882. This inverts the league-wide trend, where the regular-season OPS is 39 points higher than the postseason average.
Field coordinator Néstor Corredor said Chourio has worked to reduce anxiety by shortening his swing and working counts. Corredor noted that Chourio understands he is part of a complete team and does not have to be the sole hero.
Chourio has had three consecutive seasons with at least 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases. He became the first player to achieve that feat before age 23.
Chourio's father, Jackson Sr., was a fan of the Los Angeles Lakers during their early 2000s dynasty. Chourio's middle name is Bryan, a reference to Kobe Bryant. The player said he read Bryant's autobiography and tried to adopt his mental approach.
Chourio said he knows how hard he worked to reach this point. He described the current success as gratifying because it is working out in the best way possible.
