Milwaukee Brewers fans are one swing away from a first championship. Cooper Pratt hit a home run off Ian Seymour in the 12th inning of Game 4, putting the Brewers up 3-2 and three outs from the title.
The Brewers took a 3-0 series lead and can close it out tonight. Twenty-five teams have trailed 3-0 in the World Series, and none have come back to win. Of those 25 teams that fell behind 3-0, 21 won Game 4 to finish the sweep.
Pratt had four hits in the game, including the homer to left-center. Tampa Bay's Yandy Díaz walked in the 12th before the Rays replaced him with pinch runner Jorge Mateo, who stole second. Jonathan Aranda then flew out, ending the threat.
The game stayed tied at 2-2 through the ninth and 10th innings. Aaron Ashby entered in the ninth and struck out Jonathan Aranda to reach 16 scoreless innings in October, matching Andrew Miller's record, then set a new mark with a groundout by Junior Caminero. Liam Hicks grounded out to send the game to extra innings.
Tampa Bay's Bryan Baker pitched the ninth. Cooper Pratt reached on a grounder, and after Garrett Mitchell flied out, Pratt was called safe stealing second. The Rays challenged, and replay reversed the call on a throw from Liam Hicks and a tag by Richie Palacios. Trevor Megill got the final out of the frame.
David Hamilton hit a home run in the fifth to tie the game at 2-2. Rays starter Griffin Jax left after four-plus innings, his first postseason start, and Kevin Kelly finished the fifth. Nick Martinez, Tampa Bay's scheduled Game 5 starter, pitched a scoreless sixth in relief.
Tampa Bay scored in the fourth when Junior Caminero reached on a single and came home on an error. Dustin Mays exited after the leadoff single, and JoJo Romero took over. Milwaukee's challenge on the tag at third was denied.
The Brewers bullpen has a 1.34 ERA this postseason. Pat Murphy used Abner Uribe in the sixth for two strikeouts and a groundout. Milwaukee's Aaron Ashby, D.L. Hall, and Tyler Wells worked later innings, with Wells retiring Christian Yelich and William Contreras in the 11th before Kevin Cash brought in Cam Booser.
Game 4 is being played in St. Petersburg. The Rays face a 3-0 deficit that no team has overcome in World Series history, and Milwaukee is three outs from its first title.
