Google is releasing version 5.11 of its Health app this week, bringing immediate changes to how Fitbit and Pixel Watch owners track their daily movements. The update expands automatic activity recognition from 10 categories to 100. This includes new support for strength training, swimming, and various racket and team sports. Users on the Fitbit Air and Pixel Watch 3, 4, and 5 can access these features now. The Fitbit Edge will receive the same capabilities when the device launches on October 27.

The new system uses contextual reasoning to analyze workout routines and historical data. Google states that this approach makes detections nearly twice as accurate. The company reports that the update cuts missed workouts by more than half. A session is logged automatically if it reaches a 15-minute minimum duration and shows a sustained elevated heart rate. A summary typically appears in the app within 30 minutes. The feature learns from user corrections to improve future predictions.

Premium subscribers with a Fitbit Air or Fitbit Edge can now set up new Health Guardian tools. Blood pressure and insulin resistance trends are available for setup immediately. The first reports are scheduled for the beginning of November. Blood pressure data requires wearing the Fitbit Air for at least five consecutive days in October. Insulin resistance trends require seven days and nights of wear during the month.

The app also updates its glucose tracking interface. The term 'Blood glucose' is replaced with 'Glucose' throughout the application. New charts and graphs accompany this change. Users can set custom time-in-range goals for data from connected continuous glucose monitors. In the United States, Lingo by Abbott can now connect directly to the app. Glucose readings from this device appear within 30 minutes. Premium members can ask the Health Coach questions about their specific glucose trends.

Sleep tracking has received two specific refinements. The system now uses step data to better identify short awakenings, such as trips to the bathroom. Users can also delete a nap that does not align with their day directly from the nap card. Version 5.11 is currently available on iOS devices. The rollout to Android users is still in progress.
