Dylan Raiola completed 22 of 31 passes for 336 yards and three touchdowns on Sunday, leading Oregon to a 23-16 victory over No. 20 Northwestern. The Ducks had trailed 10-0 in the early minutes but rallied behind Raiola’s performance, which marked one of the best games of his career. New offensive coordinator Jay Johnson adjusted the game plan to allow Oregon’s receivers more space, resulting in a high-volume aerial attack that secured the win.
The victory came during a chaotic Week 9 slate where five AP Top 25 teams fell to unranked opponents. No. 25 Wisconsin saw its season momentum shatter after a 30-0 loss to Iowa. The Badgers were outclassed on both sides of the ball, managing only 52 rushing yards. Iowa quarterback Hank Brown completed 20 of 24 passes for 222 yards and two touchdowns, capping a dominant performance for the Hawkeyes.
No. 4 Indiana survived a late scare against Minnesota to win 23-16 in overtime. The Hoosiers trailed after a 60-yard field goal in the final seconds of regulation but responded with a successful 60-yard kick of their own to force extra time. Coach Curt Cignetti navigated a tense final drive to keep Indiana’s season alive despite clock management issues earlier in the fourth quarter.
Texas Tech defeated No. 22 Houston and No. 22 Arizona in recent weeks, shifting the Big 12 title conversation. Coach Joey McGuire turned to backup quarterback Thomas Castellanos after a loss to Cincinnati. The Red Raiders now face road tests against No. 24 Oklahoma State and Baylor in the coming weeks.
Oklahoma fell 42-25 at home to South Carolina, marking another stumble for head coach Brent Venables. The Sooners defense allowed 28 points in the first half, including an 84-yard touchdown pass from LaNorris Sellers to DJ Black. The loss added to a trend of defensive struggles under Venables, who is approaching his third losing season in five years.
Baylor quarterback DJ Lagway threw for 319 yards and four touchdowns without an interception in a 41-9 win over UCF. Lagway completed 64% of his passes under interim head coach Joe Klanderman. Meanwhile, No. 19 SMU lost 30-27 to Syracuse after surrendering a passing touchdown with 17 seconds remaining, ending their push for a College Football Playoff spot.
Sacramento State recorded its first FBS victory by defeating Kent State 31-10. Running back Isaiah Ene rushed for 107 yards and two touchdowns in the win. The Hornets had lost their first seven FBS games by an average of 27.5 points prior to this matchup.
