Braves manager Walt Weiss took over a team that lost 86 games last year. Under his leadership this season, Atlanta won 94 games.
Major League Baseball Network announced on Monday that Weiss is a finalist for the NL Manager of the Year award. He competes against Don Mattingly of the Philadelphia Phillies and Pat Murphy of the Milwaukee Brewers. Murphy is seeking the award for the third consecutive year.
The Braves promoted Weiss from bench coach to manager after Brian Snitker retired. Snitker had just guided the team through a 76-win campaign, marking the first time since 2017 that Atlanta missed the postseason. Weiss led the franchise to its first NL East title since 2023.
The team secured the No. 3 seed in the playoffs. They defeated the Phillies in two of three games at Truist Park during the Wild Card Series. The Braves were then eliminated by the Los Angeles Dodgers in a five-game National League Division Series.
The BBWAA will announce the Manager of the Year winner on Nov. 10. Pitcher Chris Sale, also a Brave, is a finalist for the NL Cy Young Award. He will learn if he has won the honor for the second time on Nov. 11.
Other finalists for NL awards include Pete Crow-Armstrong, Shohei Ohtani, and Brice Turang for MVP. Jacob Misiorowski and Cristopher Sánchez round out the Cy Young slate. Carson Benge, Sal Stewart, and JJ Wetherholt are nominated for Rookie of the Year.
